Strategic Partnership with the Global Council of Tolerance and Peace

BPUR International is delighted to announce a strategic partnership with the Global Council of Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) to advance the mutual objectives of eliminating the root causes of religious conflicts and promoting tolerance and peace worldwide.

The President of the GCTP, HE Ahmed Aljarwan and the Founder and Secretary General of BPUR International, Mr Salam Sarhan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Geneva on Wednesday, 28th of May 2025.

They vowed to consolidate, develop and structure their cooperation in areas of common concern and work together towards shared goals to make the world more tolerant, more fair and more peaceful.

The ceremony took place in the headquarters of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva during an event to foster the resilience of refugees, organised by the GCTP and the UNHCR.

BPUR and the GCTP explored holding international events to promote the introduction of global rules to eliminate the political abuse of religion as an indispensable tool to protect all victims of religious oppression.

Mr Aljarwan called to form a “global partnership of visionary officials, lawmakers and leading representatives of the international community to work together toward introducing new standards to combat the weaponising of religion for political purposes”.

Mr Sarhan highlighted that “the global legal toolkit needs upgrading with a highly focused and more effective new international treaty to ban specifically all forms of political abuses of religion”.

They emphasised that the GCTP and BPUR International share identical objectives and pledged to work together with all brave decision-makers, officials, lawmakers and global organizations to promote the culture of tolerance and peace worldwide.

The Global Council for Tolerance and Peace is one of the most prominent international organizations, leading efforts to spread the culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence according to international conventions and norms adopted by the United Nations.

BPUR International is a global campaign, based in the UK, to enact an “International Treaty to Prohibit the Political Abuse of Religions” as a crucial foundation to eliminate the root causes of religious conflicts worldwide.
