International Award Presented to Amina Bouayach at Westminster Conference

BPUR International presented the International Award for Confronting the Political Abuse of Religion to Ms. Amina Bouayach during its high-level conference at the House of Commons in London on 26 March 2026.

The award was conferred by the Board of BPUR International in recognition of Ms. Bouayach’s distinguished leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing human rights, equality, and the protection of fundamental freedoms at both national and international levels. As President of the National Human Rights Council of Morocco, she has played a pivotal role in strengthening human rights protections, promoting equality before the law, and fostering inclusive dialogue that supports peaceful coexistence.

The award also recognises her important contribution to this global initiative, including her leadership in advancing the First International Conference on the Political Abuse of Religion held in Rabat in 2022, a foundational milestone in the development of the campaign toward an International Treaty to Ban the Political Abuse of Religion.

Throughout her career, Ms. Bouayach has been a steadfast advocate for human dignity, democratic values, and inclusive societies grounded in respect for diversity and the rule of law. Through her leadership of the National Human Rights Council of Morocco, she has played a vital role in strengthening human rights protections, promoting equality before the law, and supporting dialogue that advances peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.

Her work reflects a principled commitment to confronting extremism, rejecting the misuse of religion as a tool of division, and safeguarding the civic space in which freedom of belief and equal citizenship can flourish. By consistently championing human rights and responsible governance, she has contributed to international efforts aimed at preventing the political abuse of religion and reinforcing norms of equality and mutual respect.

Ms. Bouayach also played a key role in advancing this global initiative by supporting and leading the First International Conference on the Political Abuse of Religion, held in Rabat, Morocco, on 11–12 May 2022, which marked a foundational milestone in the development of the global campaign to advance an International Treaty to Ban the Political Abuse of Religion.

In recognition of these contributions and of her leadership in promoting human rights, equality, and responsible governance, BPUR International is honoured to present this award.

Her leadership and example embody the principles upon which this international initiative is founded: that religion must remain a source of moral guidance and human dignity, never a mechanism of political manipulation.
