Yazda is a global Yazidi organisation, based in the United States as a non-governmental nonprofit organisation. It was established in August 2014 to support the Yazidi people especially in northern Iraq and northeastern Syria, where the Yazidi community has been victim of a genocide committed by ISIS, which included mass murder, displacement, forced religious conversions, forced marriages, sexual assault, physical assault, torture, kidnapping, and slavery.
The organisation is a leading campaigner for the protection of survivors and the recognition of the Yazidi Genocide as a crime against humanity. This includes legal efforts for accountability, the documentation of the Yazidi Genocide, the empowerment of survivors to advance the rights and status of Yazidis in Iraq and around the world.
Yazda is a founding partner of Nadia Murad`s Initiative and as a result of their work together, Nadia Murad won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018.
